The Benefits of Facial Massage

July 29, 2008

by Ian Richards

Are you one of those people who think that facial massage is for other people and not you? Lets face it, when you look in the mirror in the morning, do you recognise yourself? Can that pale, creased, puffy person looking back, really be yourself? How did you end up looking like this? Well don’t worry, the creases will have come from the folds in your pillow but the rest is down to the natural circulation slow down that occurs during sleep. During the night, the body slows down, the heart rate decreases which means that the blood flow decreases. The lymph glands are responsible for getting rid of the toxins in the body and they rely on the blood circulation to transport it. As the blood flow has diminished, so the toxins have built up, which accounts for the bad looks. It is not only sleep that can slow down your circulation, lack of exercise, poor nutrition, pollution and shallow breathing can affect it, thus also interrupting the draining of toxins.

Doing facial exercises will be able to kick start your circulation, and bring a glow to your face which indicates that the blood is now flowing at a good rate, which in turn allows your lymphatic system to start getting rid of those nasty toxins. This will improve your immune system giving you a much healthier complexion. As approximately half of all lymph glands are sited in your neck area, it is really important to get the facial tissues’ blood flow working properly.

Skin is made up of three layers, the epidermis at the top, the dermis and hypodermis and its main functions, apart from keeping all your blood and organs in are protection against infection by micro-organisms and injury, regulating the body’s temperature and the nicest, receiving sensations. The epidermis is our protector, its only other function is to allow water evaporation. They cells are constantly being renewed as the old ones fall off. The dermis is the really active part, it contains collagen, elastin, capillaries (small blood vessels), nerve endings and the tops of the sweat and sebaceous glands. This layer secretes, circulates, feels and helps to regulate the bodys’ temperature. The final layer is made up of fatty tissue where the bases of the hair follicles, sweat and sebaceous glands live. The water content is also quite high in this layer. Although the structure is the same all over the body, it has variations depending on the location and its function there. Think of the soles of your feet, no hair or sweat glands and much thicker. The face has a number of important functions; it monitors temperature and atmospheric conditions, is connected to a lot of different muscles for non-verbal communications and is quite sensitive to the touch for pleasure.

Skin will age in several different ways, depending on each of the three levels. When we are young, our skin cells last almost twice as long but as we grow older, elastin disappears which disrupts the collagen and tends to flatten the skin. Added to this, the hypodermis will lose moisture and the fatty tissues head south due to gravity making the skin lose tone and elasticity. With a life time of frowning, smiling, scowling and all the other faces we pull, lines begin to develop. Not only that but the action of the sun, poor diet, smoking and other pollutants, stress and even the chemicals in make up add to the ageing process. Which means the sooner you start your facial massage, the sooner you can maybe put the brakes on the ageing process.

The bodys’ reaction to squeezing and pressing is to get red which means that the blood is flowing into the area. When this happens, it starts to bring more oxygenated blood which is really beneficial to your skin. This, in a more gentler way, is what happens when you have a facial massage. The act of massage will promote the blood flow with the added bonus of stimulating the lymphatic system to drain away the toxins which leads to a healthier looking skin.

When giving yourself a facial massage, it is important that you do not press too hard, as this can have a detrimental effect on the skin, so a gentle touch is needed. To get the most out of your facial massage, concentrate on the acupoint areas of the face. These are the areas corresponding to the acupuncture points. Acupuncture, as everyone knows is the ancient form of healing, where needles are inserted into the skin. These points are situated along the meridians of the body where the energy, known as Qi flows. Stimulating these points in your massage will have the added effect of unblocking the negative energy as well as promoting blood flow.

To further increase the effectiveness of your acupoint facial massage, try essential oils which can assist in repairing and nourishing the skin. Essentials oils should always be added to what is known as a carrier oil, these are vegetable based oils such as olive, almond, grape seed and wheat germ and will also have a healing effect on the skin. You can add up to four different essential oils to the carrier but do not exceed ten drops in total as they are quite strong. Always apply just a little drop to the skin first, especially if you suffer a lot from allergies. It is not advisable to use essential oils in the first few months of pregnancy so consult your doctor before using them.

When using this type of massage, a gentle pressure is all that is needed, provided you are touching the correct acupoints. To find out where they are, a good book to read is Facelift At Your Fingertips by Pierre Jean Cousin which not only clearly shows you where they are, but has further information on how to use essential oils. Using a regular acupoint facial massage, together with your normal beauty regime will really help in the anti aging process. Who knows, one morning you may look in the mirror and think you are looking at your daughter.

The Importance of Anti Wrinkle Skin Care Products

July 29, 2008

by Leanne Wumoult

With the focus today on looking good, anti wrinkle skin care products are becoming increasingly popular. Many people use these products as part of their daily routine. Everyone wants to look young and fresh and anti wrinkle skin care products promise a younger appearance.

No matter the culture that you belong to, you may feel the pressure to stay young looking. It is inevitable that everyone ages and faces the same issues, but many people are not going without a fight.

Addressing Multitude of Issues

Anti wrinkle skin care products can minimize or even reverse the signs of aging that gather on our faces as we grow older. And time isn’t the only thing to blame for our wrinkles; our skin can age prematurely due to sun damage or excessive dryness. Whatever the cause, there are plenty of anti wrinkle skin care products that can combat its effects.

One such effect is called “glycation”. Glycation occurs when a sugar molecule bonds with a protein or fat molecule without the controlling influence of an enzyme. This haphazard process causes wrinkles. Anti wrinkle skin care products help manage this process, forcing it to occur in a controlled manner that does not produce wrinkles.

Most of the time, however, wrinkles are caused by an overexposure to dry air. You will find that most anti wrinkle skin care products have a moisturizer that balance out the drying effect that is occurring on the skin. They also usually have a sunscreen to protect the skin from the effects of the sun.

More Comfortable, More Affordable, Less Dangerous

Many people want the attractiveness of youth without the risks and cost associated with plastic surgery. Even simple injectables like Botox and Restylane have been known to have undesirable effects. Luckily, surgical procedures are no longer necessary to achieve dramatic results. Regular use of a high-quality anti wrinkle skin care product can reduce and reverse the signs of aging.

Important Considerations

Not every anti wrinkle skin care product can give you the same results. It is best to look for products that are made from natural ingredients to avoid the side effects thaCSt can happen with chemical laced skin care products. Ingredients like aloe vera, grape seed oil, and avocado are used in many skin care products to help with the battle against wrinkles. You should also look for a product that has antioxidants and an ingredient to relax the muscles.

In recent days, few anti wrinkle skin care products use shea butter, which is an excellent natural skin care ingredient working gently over almost all skin types. This natural product is obtained from Shea or Mangifolia tree native to Western African sub-continents.

When you choose an anti wrinkle skin care product, don’t fall victim to empty promises. Some products are marketed to make a quick profit, even though they haven’t been proven to be effective. Do some research to find the best anti wrinkle skin care product for you.

More Tips On Effectively Using Beauty Care Products - Reference

July 28, 2008

by James Redder

There is no reason why you can’t have skin to be proud of without spending a small fortune; by following some of the simple skin care advice in this article you will not go far wrong. Whilst plastic surgery, liposuction and other invasive techniques have been incredibly popular in the past, mainly because they provide near instant results, that is no longer the case with modern beauty care. The best thing about modern beauty care products other than their cost is the fact they are generally natural so cannot harm the person who is using them.

In the past these beauty care products might have had a poor image being confined to anti-aging lotions and cold creams. Today some of these products are among the most important available to help make the skin look young and healthy. We often forget that our skin is an organ that needs looking after as it has a difficult job to and needs regular help.

Part one in your daily skin care regime is to use a cleansing agent to remove all the pollutions like smoke, dust and make-up that our skin has to put up with on a daily basis. Removing the dirt and other materials from your face requires the cleaner to be placed on a soft pad and gentle massaged into the skin finally being removed with warm water.

Each person’s skin has its own pH balance and if you use a toner once you have cleansed your skin, it will re-establish your natural PH balance. Lotions and moisturizers massaged into the skin help to reduce the effect of wrinkles and ensure the skin is more supple. This beauty care product step helps to seal in your treatment and to lock in the natural moisture in your skin.

As a regular aspect of your skin care regime you should use a natural peel or exfoliant once or twice a week which helps remove dead skin which can clog the pores. You must not forget however, that when you carry out this exfoliation you make sure that you continue with a complete cleanse and tone afterwards.

For those people that suffer with puffy or baggy skin below the eyes, formulated beauty care product creams are able to help alleviate this problem making the skin much suppler and improving its elasticity. Often forgotten, water is an important aspect that provides many beneficial properties to help the skin, like hydration and removing unwanted toxins. The health of your skin should not be underestimated, not just for vanity reasons but for our overall health as it is a barrier against the elements, pollution and disease.

Microdermabrasion for Stretch Marks

July 19, 2008

by Emily Macdonald

Many of us will have heard of microdermabrasion by now as it is one of the most popular skin care treatments available from beauty spas. clinics and beauty salons on both sides of the Atlantic ocean. The reason for the treatment’s success is it’s success in a number of areas relating to skin care and is mostly known as an anti-aging treatment but it is also extremely effective in treating other things such as stretch marks.

This incredible treatment has been described as sandblasting as the process is extremely similar in that the machine blasts crystals onto the skin to remove dead skin cells and other dirt and debris. It also removes the very top layer of the dermis which helps speed up the skin’s renewal processes by forcing an increase in the production of skin cells. The process also encourages an acceleration in the production of collagen which is why microdermabrasion for stretch marks (and other forms of scar tissue, such as acne scars) is so successful.

Unfortunately, if your stretch marks are extremely deep, microdermabrasion may not reduce their visibility to a satisfactory degree. Do not believe all the hype that surrounds skin care treatments, this treatment is one of the very best but it can not perform miracles. In such cases the only real solution is cosmetic surgery so you should seek professional medical advice at the earliest opportunity.

However, if you only suffer from minor stretch marks and you wish to have them removed you will find that microdermabrasion is capable of removing them. It has been proven medically that this treatment can easily remove some crow’s feet ( the very fine lines that can be seen coming from the external corners of the eye). It can certainly reduce the apparent depth of scars to such a degree that they are no longer visible (or at least not so noticeable without close inspection).

Isn’t it strange that some pregnant women end up with stretch marks while others don’t? The reasons for this are somewhat complicated but much has to do with the elasticity of the persons skin. If the skin is stretched too much it can lead to damage to the collagen and, ultimately to it’s collapse which, in turn, leads to the formation of stretch marks. Microdermabrasion tackles the problem by stimulating the natural healing processes of the skin and enhancing collagen production.

Many pregnant women attempt to avoid stretch marks from developing by using some of the many products available which claim to work miracles. As with any “miracle” product it is common for results to vary from person to person making assessment of their effectiveness rather difficult. Nearly all such products aim to increase the skin’s elasticity by moisturizing it deeply. Unfortunately even when using these products women can still develop stretch marks but it could be claimed that without using them these women could have had far worse stretch marks.

If you have just given birth it is advisable that you care for yourself and your skin. You need to recover as quickly as possible and a good diet it crucial to early recovery. The application of skin creams and other skin care treatments may be a good idea but it would be worth seeking medical advice rather than self medication.

Why not treat yourself to a pampering at your local beauty salon, health clinic or spa? Most places offer sessions of microdermabrasion so you will be able to give it a try while you relax, ready to return refreshed and ready to face the trials and challenges of parenthood.

An incredibly important influencing factor in ensuring that your skin will always look young and healthy, healthy and young is to keep to a regular skin care plan. In their desperate search for eternal youth our scientists have created all types of skin care products for our use. Unfortunately skin care and Microdermabrasion organizations are often as guilty of this practice as others.

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive procedure that is famous for it’s highly visible results. Sadly many of the Micro-dermabrasion web sites, in their attempts to persuade folk to use their treatments and services at their spa, aesthetic clinic or beauty salon, display photographs which are not exactly a true representation of the results gained there. It is, therefore, incredibly important to attempt to discover the true levels of their skills. One of the best and easiest ways in which to do this is to simply ask for samples of the results which prior customers gained and also for any recommendations made by such. You can ask colleagues, friends and family members if they know of their reputation or have had Microdermabrasion there. If it is true that they have a good reputation then it is most probable that they are proficient in Microdermabrasion.

If you plan to book yourself some Microdermabrasion treatments there is a selection of facts which you should know of, especially in respect of before or after Microdermabrasion. Before your treatments commence you will have a consultation with your beautician who will examine your skin and decide upon the most suitable pretreatment. After Micro-dermabrasion treatments you may appear a little pinkish in the face. Do not panic because this is common and it will soon reduce. Importantly you should not expose your skin to too much sun after Micro-dermabrasion because the skin is sensitive and might be damaged.

What Is The Best Anti-wrinkle Cream? It’s Hard To Say.

July 17, 2008

by Jen Hopkins

What is the best anti-wrinkle cream? It is a question that will get you many different answers, depending on who you ask. Young women, middle-aged women, older women and skin care and cosmetic companies will probably each have their “best recommendation.”

With the increasing desire to look younger for longer, wrinkle creams have become one of the top selling beauty products out there. If you cannot afford or feel apprehensive about surgeries or needles, anti-wrinkle creams are one of your only options to keep your youthful appearance.

Every website will list a different “best” anti-wrinkle cream. Brand-related websites will post tests and data to prove that they are the “best”. Most likely they are using data from a beauty panel made up of women who tested the products and then ranked them according to results, price, and usability.

Other websites will devote their site to reviewing different creams and lotions available to the typical female. Here, you can look at a variety of testimonials, price ranges, and rankings on a wide assortment of creams from an unbiased website.

Some optional remedies may stun you. Who would have thought that hemorrhoid cream could be used to combat wrinkles? Many women have considered if not tried the idea, while most men gag since they consider the cream as something to be used at the opposite end of the body.

Hemorrhoid cream as the miracle wrinkle reducer has no basis in fact. A quick Internet search will bring up a wide spread of opinions. It has been shown to get rid of redness and puffiness which momentarily decreases the appearance of wrinkles, but the long-term and preventative effects are unproven.

Despite the lack of a “best” cream, several ingredients have been proven to have the desire results. Because these ingredients are used in cosmetics, they are not regulated by the FDA. Tea extracts, hydroxy acids, Coenzyme Q10, retinol, and copper peptides have been proven to work. Most brands, whether costing hundreds or just a few dollars, contain the same ingredients. Research can show you a good price range and product for your budget.

Finding your “best” anti-wrinkle cream all depends on your age, how much you are in the sun, your skin type, and your skin care regime. Remember that there is no miracle cream that can make all of your wrinkles instantly disappear. They simple make wrinkles less noticeable or slow their appearance. If you want to ensure wrinkle-free skin for a longer period of time, make sure you exercise, eat right, and take care of your skin each and every day.

How To Get Rid Of Cellulite And Improve Your Health

July 16, 2008

by Gal Bishop

Near the beginning of each summer do you seem to find yourself asking how to get rid of cellulite on your hips and thighs?

Celluite is nothing new for most women but it causes much distress anyway. With nearly ninety percent showing some signs of orange peel skin on the legs and other areas, it is a definite area of concern and embarrassment for many.

Although many people have surgery to eliminate cellulite, it’s usually not required or even recommended. Not surprisingly, diet and exercise can help to reduce cellulite in the legs, as well as all over the body.

Luckily, the best part is you don’t need to spend a lot of money on cellulite reduction procedures. You can say no to liposuction and any other drastic measure you might be thinking about. While some widely available treatments will work when you first use them, you typically will need to continue using them for lasting results.

Fat Burning Activites Combined With Eating Right Can Help Reduce Cellulite

Nearly any fat burning tactic can help you improve your condition including walking, biking and tennis. Strength training is also recommended to build muscle firmness and smooth out the skin’s appearance. But, for those with joint issues or previous injuries a more creative approach to exercising the legs may be necessary.

A Gentle Exercise Plan That’s Easy On The Joints

Walking in water - this type of exercise is deadly to those cottage cheese thighs but is less harful to the joints than traditional exercise options. You’re less likely to injure yourself which will result in more frequent and pleasurable workouts. Begin by getting into the water about waist deep and then start walking as fast as you can. Keep your arms bent at your side and pumping as if you were power-walking down the sidewalk.

To protect your feet and keep them more comfortable, look at buying a pair of water shoes. Try to do this activity for around thirty minutes two or three times a week. At the point when your workout feels easy, look at adding leg weights or walking in deeper water. Look for the type of weights made just for use in the water and consider incorporating an upper body segment to your routine as well.

While no how to get rid of cellulite program is fool-proof, workouts performed in or out of the water will go a long way toward getting you in the best shape possible. Just remember to focus on improvement rather than absolute perfection.

Microdermabrasion and Stretch Marks

July 16, 2008

by Emily Macdonald

Many of us will have heard of microdermabrasion by now as it is one of the most popular skin care treatments available from beauty spas. clinics and beauty salons on both sides of the Atlantic ocean. The reason for the treatment’s success is it’s success in a number of areas relating to skin care and is mostly known as an anti-aging treatment but it is also extremely effective in treating other things such as stretch marks.

Often referred to as a “sandblasting of the face” due to the methods and processes involved in the treatment, microdermabrasion removes dead and dying skin cells with the aid of fine, medical grade, crystals. The crystals are forced onto the face, by a special machine, via a wand which then sucks up the residue. By the removal of dead skin cells and dirt the treatment encourages the skin to renew and the production of collagen is increased. Because of this the procedure is excellent for the removal of stretch marks and minor scars, such as acne scars.

Unfortunately, if your stretch marks are extremely deep, microdermabrasion may not reduce their visibility to a satisfactory degree. Do not believe all the hype that surrounds skin care treatments, this treatment is one of the very best but it can not perform miracles. Microdermabrasion tackles the problem by stimulating the natural healing processes of the skin and enhancing collagen production.

Many believe that preparation is the key to avoiding stretch marks and there are a number of products available on the market which claim to reduce the risks. Other products claim to speed up the healing process but most work along similar lines in that they help to increase the skin’s elasticity by the use of moisturizers. However, even if you use such products, it is still possible for stretch marks to develop (though the use of such products may mean that they are less dramatic than they would have been without their use).

As well as caring for you skin while pregnant it is also incredibly important to take care of your skin immediately after giving birth. At this time your whole body will be exhausted and in need of recovery and this is equally true with your skin. It is crucial that you eat well and develop a good skin care regime at the earliest opportunity. If you are concerned about scarring it is well worth seeking medical advice before and after birth.

One way in which to unwind, relax and recover is to book a short vacation in a health spa where you can indulge in all manner of treatments. Some places offer virtually all treatments available and many offer sessions of microdermabrasion so why not give it a try?

A Look at Canadian Organic Skin Care Products

July 16, 2008

by Lindelwa Maseko

Organic fruits and vegetables are the most popular things on organic skin care routines e.g. cucumber is very common in organic skin care routines. Turmeric, apple, papaya, ginger are others that find a wide use in organic skin care routines. These organic materials have a very refreshing and vitalizing effect on your skin. Almost every skin care book/guide has section on organic skin care (including the actions of various fruits and vegetables on skin). So choose the ones that are more suitable for your skin type and start experimenting with them until you finally select the ones that are most suitable for inclusion in your organic skin care routine. It’s important that you use fresh organic fruits/vegetables. Don’t try to utilize the rotten ones for your skin, their only place is the garbage bin.

Yogurt and sour cream are other organic materials that are popular for their exfoliation and moisturizing properties.

‘Organic skin care’ uses combinations of various organic materials that complement each other and enhance each other’s effectiveness. Moreover, these combinations are also helpful in over-riding the harmful effects (if any) of various organic materials that form them.

The importance of caring for your skin

The flowing of positive energy is important when caring for your skin, moreover, this flow of positive energy is experience by people around you too and you observe that even they are friendlier with you. You get more respect from others. They are more responsive to your queries. They themselves experience the freshness that you are exuding. They love working with you and for you. Yes, that’s how it works. Some people might even go ahead and ask you about the skin care products you use (you might or might not reveal those secret skin care products to them). Thus, a healthy skin can be instrumental in creating a pleasant and friendly environment around you. On the other hand, carelessness or negligence on this front can make you look unattractive and dull. You will not only look dull but also feel dull. Your work efficiency is reduced. Even the people you meet might not be as friendly. In fact, it might lead to the aging process getting started much earlier.

The first categorization is based on the skin type - so you have skin care products for oily skin, skin care product for dry skin, skin care products for sensitive skin etc.

However, skin care products are not the only way of skin care. You also need to build some basic skin care procedures in your day to day life (as we discuss in the other article on personal skin care).

Serious skin care

‘Serious skin care’ is about awareness. With the technological advancements and research, more and more facts are being brought to light everyday. Also, the composition and nature of skin care products seems to be changing with time. So trying out the new products is also a part of serious skin care. However, ’serious skin care’ advises using a new product over a small patch of skin (not facial skin) first, just to see how your skin reacts to it.

Some precautions, like avoiding contact with detergents, are also part of serious skin care. ‘Serious skin care’ means being gentle with your skin. Things like over-exfoliation, use of low quality products, and application of strong-chemical based products, are all harmful to your skin. Some people have a wrong notion about serious skin care. For them serious skin care is - using large quantities of products as often as possible. However, this really isn’t serious skin care (and that’s why awareness is so important).
