Why You Should Mull Over Using A Respirator

July 29, 2008

by Steve Collins

Each job that stirs up dust and particulates calls for respiratory protection. Numerous people think respirators are necessary basically for recognized hazards such as lead, asbestos, chemicals, and gases, but all categories of airborne particles can aggravate the lungs and cause breathing distress.

For instance, you are supposed to wear a respirator when welding, machining metal, quarrying stone, mixing cement, handling lime, working in a mine, bagging dusty construction waste, or cleaning under conditions where allergens or excessive dust are present. Many people, however, are reluctant to wear respirators, even for their own security.

People often think of respirators as awkward. Current respirators are a far cry from the dinosaurs of the past, however. Moldex is a leader in offering safe, comfortable respiratory protection for a variety of conditions. In fact, they constantly refine their products to offer you state of the art respirators that provide outstanding filtration and such ultimate comfort that you will forget you are wearing it! To prove their commitment to innovation, Moldex holds many more than fifty patents on their parts and products.

Moldex respirators come in a enormous variety. The 2307 N95 low profile respirator is an wonderful representative. This model features an exhale valve, making it perfect for hot, humid dusty conditions where oil is not present. It delivers a 95% efficiency level for particulate aerosols under those conditions. The exhale valve does a tremendous job of preventing the build up of heat and moisture, keeping the wearer cooler. In addition, the respirator avoids pressure points, and a flexible interior makes the respirator quite comfortable to wear for long periods.

Even if your profession does not officially require you to wear a respirator, it may be a wise idea to use one anyway. Having a respirator on hand for jobs at home is a judicious idea, too. You never know when you have to clean out the attic or spread a load of mulch! Moldex respirators help you breathe comfortably, keeping you safe and allowing you to work to your utmost capacity.

Why You Should Purify Your Hands

July 29, 2008

by Steve Collins

When you think about it, life is pretty yucky. It is not what you see-like that dead opossum down the street getting flatter and stinkier with each passing day or the garbage can in summer-but what you do not see that should have you concerned, though.

For instance, you may go into the grocery store with nice clean hands but the second you touch that shopping cart handle you are exposed to every nasty thing you can imagine. Who knows what disease-ridden person may have had that cart before you or what snotty-nosed kid rode in the seat with his dirty hands all over the handle?

Public restrooms are another dangerous place when it comes to germs. We ask our kids if they washed their hands as they come out of the bathroom, but really, what does it matter? Think about all the people who do not wash their hands–all their germs are crawling contentedly about the door handle which your kid just grabbed. The waiting room at the doctor’s office is another potentially hazardous place. If you are not careful, you may leave with something worse than the illness which brought you there in the first place.

The list of places where germs lurk is long, but fortunately we do not have to go cringing through life without protection. Hand sanitizer has proven to be a useful tool in fighting 99.99% of common illness-causing germs. In a recent study involving sixteen schools, children and staff were divided into control and product groups. The product groups used hand sanitizer before and after entering the classroom. The study found a 19.8% absentee reduction among students in the product group, a critical finding for parents and schools alike.

Using products like Purell hand wipes or liquid sanitizing gels fights disease. Keep sanitizing wipes in your purse, your car, your briefcase, close to the diaper changing table?anywhere you need instant protection from potential germs. Like hand washing, getting into the habit of using sanitizing wipes can be an effective disease fighter.

Mosquito 101

July 29, 2008

by Dr. Green

Mosquitoes are out in force once again, and many consumers are faced with the difficult task of choosing the right insect repellent for their particular needs.

Will you be going hunting, fishing or camping anytime soon?

Do you live in a wooded area or somewhere near a lake or stream?

Do you have standing water on or around your property?

Are you flying to your final destination and can?t pack a liquid repellent in your luggage?

And, probably the most important question of all, do you have children that you must also consider?

I’ve found that in most cases, DEET, however successful it may have proven in the past, is overkill when it comes to keeping mosquitoes away. Yes, it is a proven method of repelling, but it is also a chemical that has proven to be dangerous and destructive on many levels. DEET is not only known for causing a number of health issues with the young and old, but it also has a reputation for melting buttons on clothing, watch faces and straps, fishing gear, golf grips and just about anything it comes into contact with. In fact, I once watched a girl hold a can of Coke after spreading DEET on her legs, and the red paint from the Coke can came right off on her hands!! Now that?s something to think about when you are about to put it on your skin!

There are a growing number of viable NATURAL and NON-LIQUID alternatives on the market that do just as good a job as DEET without any of the side effects or risk of damaging your favorite clothing and other gear.

This season, I took a personal interest in researching and testing a couple of these and looking very carefully at the testing associated with one particular product called Bug Bam (http://www.bugbam.com). Unfortunately I couldn?t get my hands on testing for the other products I was interested in, but Bug Bam was very transparent in providing me with their testing data, and I must say, it is very impressive.

To preface how Bug Bam works, let me explain the methods a mosquito uses to find us.

Mosquitoes analyze around 300 different scents that come off each of our bodies. From carbon dioxide to lactic acid, they can detect these scents up to 100 feet away and, as they come closer, they actually begin smelling our very skin. As each person smells differently, some people are more appealing to mosquitoes than others, but overall, mosquitoes are after our protein (blood), which they use to lay their eggs. And mosquitoes don?t actually bite, they have a long ?proboscus?, or needle nose, which they use to pierce the skin and ?suck? our blood.

DEET works by blocking the pores of our skin to prevent mosquitoes from finding us. Without fail, the DEET then goes into our bloodstream and, if used to often or too much, can seriously affect our health causing issues such as brain damage and sometimes even death.

Natural products-such as Bug Bam - work by releasing a scent that masks the wearers own scent from a mosquito. The mosquito smells the scent of the Bug Bam rather than the scent of a human, and goes elsewhere to find its food.

Female mosquitoes are the only ones that seek blood. Males (the larger mosquitoes we all see) only eat nectar from flowers.

The Bug Bam range has been proven by one of the foremost environmental research labs in the USA to repel for up to 100 hours, and the products range from wristbands (for personal use) to grids, which protect multiple people in an area up to 300 sq. ft. None of the Bug Bam products require the use of sprays, lotions, batteries, smoke, flames or power of any kind (however I did notice a fan, but have not had the chance to test it as yet).

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the Bug Bam range of products are waterproof and sweat-proof and contain ingredients and materials that are EPA approved and FDA approved as food grade. So there?s nothing to worry about if little Johnny decides he wants to swim with his Bug Bam or likes to chew on his cool new wristband.

So there you have it. Play it safe AND smart this bug season. If you really feel that nothing works for you as well as DEET, go right ahead. It IS the Gold Standard (whatever that means). But if you?re the type who wants to look after their health and well being, then a product like Bug Bam will do the job just as well.

Online Dating Not Working For You? Try Paying It Forward…

July 29, 2008

by Chaszey Sandhriel

Do you ever realize that Online profiles begin with the word “I”? Even though you are the one who is longing for true love, the online dating process really should not be about you.

Sandhriel states: “Online Dating is not about the person posting the ad, but about the person they are looking for; this is called Compound Interest. You can achieve success when you ‘Pay it Forward.’”

“Paying WHAT forward??” you may ask.

Let’s give this some thought. The Online Dating industry takes in over $2 billion dollars per year, with more than 10 million daters looking for true love online. With that many people online looking for true love just like you are, you will most likely spend your time rejecting others and getting rejected yourself. Another way of saying this is once you have made your outstanding profile public, what’s left to do is really weeding through the dozens or even hundreds of men or women that come towards you.

Until your true love has found you, try earning some karma browny points by responding to those you’re not interested in with grace. Because that most likely what you’ll spend most of your time with when you embark on the wild world of Online Dating.

“We all have heard the saying that ‘what goes out comes back tenfold.’ What we tend to forget is that no one should have to earn our kindness and our respect. Everyone deserves these gifts from us for the simplest fact that we share in the same sun light, the same water, the same air, and we all walk pretty similar paths to one another, a journey called life. We have to recognize and never forget that we all are looking for the same thing: Unconditional love,” says Chaszey.

It may take some time and willingness to send rejection e-mails to potential partners that show your effort, are filled with grace and show your kindness. Chaszey says: “Don’t underestimate how much your kind words are worth to the recipient. Not only may you mend a broken heart, but you will gain karma points that are subjected to compound interest on a whole new level. Your life can only change for the better. Maybe hard to explain, but worth the try.”

These points add to your character and create a new, stronger and kinder you that undoubtedly will attract the right person you so deserve.

So next time you want to hit that preset button sending a “no thanks” message, think about taking the time to read the person’s profile and sending them a reply filled with kindness, because they really deserve it.

New Gloves Offer Critical Protection In Multiple Settings

July 29, 2008

by Steve Collins

Anyone in the medical profession will testify to the importance of wearing gloves when examining a patient. The millions of people who have taken first aid classes have been taught never to touch a sick or injured person without the protection of gloves.

With all the blood and fluid borne biohazards in existence, you really cannot afford to be careless. Wearing gloves when treating an injury must simply become second nature. Though it is sad, we have learned that it is not smart to assume that anyone, even the neighbor boy who has had a bike wreck on the street in front of your house, is safe to treat without making use of gloves.

Doctors and nurses face a unimaginable number of germs every day, and effective barrier protection is of the greatest importance, both to protect themselves and to guard their patients from the transfer of pathogens from one person to another. This is surely one instance when it is important to purchase only the best. Too much is at stake to try and save a couple pennies on cheap gloves. When it comes to barrier protection, Microflex gloves have been providing incomparable protection since 1988.

This company is dedicated to producing gloves that allow you to do your work unobstructed while delivering the critical protection you require. A culture of excellence has grown up at Microflex, and they pride themselves on using the latest technology to continually refine their products. Their exam gloves are the best you can buy. Extended cuffs provide added protection for your wrists. They provide unparalleled sensitivity and sure grip to fingertips in either wet or dry conditions. Coated with a particular polymer inside, no exam glove is easier to don!

Whether you are maintaining a home medical kit, school first aid station, or hospital supply closet, you may well be able to skimp on band aids, but you should never be tempted to skimp on disposable gloves. When you think of what is at stake, you will agree that having the best matters.

Looking for Armed Personal Security in Your Neighborhood?

June 12, 2008

by Alex B. Hawk

The armed personal security industry is booming, as companies hire rent-a-cops to protect their assets and employees. In the United States, gated communities with armed security are common nowadays, but 50 years ago they were only found in Beverly Hills.

Certain people in this world need security for their family. And instead of keeping a firearm with them, they have opted to hire professional armed personal security. Furthermore, they live in gated communities to enhance the security.

Money

The armed personal security industry’s growth is the world’s top third fastest growing industry. Triggered by public outcry on violent crime, this sector is measured in the trillions.

In fact, there are more than 20,000 armed personal security companies located around the world.

Regulation

As expected, government regulations will soon follow. And a smart move at that, seeing as how this industry will hire the most number of people within the next ten years.

The public voices certain concerns: that this mostly unregulated private sector does a poor job of training, paying, and screening these uniformed and armed guards.

In addition, most guards can only observe, report, and attempt to deter crime; they cannot, however, use force or make arrest. The public, however, usually change their behavior upon the sight of armed security personnel.

Briefly stated, the industry started out with barons trying to wipe out unions using guards provided by the nation’s oldest security firm, Pinkerton.

Pinkerton provided the firepower when Ford Frick issued the order to gun down striking workers at Andrew Carnegie’s Homestead steel plant in 1892.
