Healing Skin Without Scars Using Essential Oils

July 29, 2008

by Peggy Thorton

At one time or another, many of us have accidents or surgery that can result in unsightly scars. The same can happen from difficult cases of acne. Even stretch marks from pregnancy or significant weight loss can leave permanent unsmooth textures on the skin. There are few treatments available beyond silicone patches, and these won’t work in all cases. If one is looking for a natural means to improve skin appearance as a wound heals, or to smooth old scars or stretch marks, scientific aromatherapy literature provides some formulas that may help.

Certain essential oils are often used for healing and regeneration of skin tissues. We’ll review these and their companion carrier oils, then present some formulas for particular situations. The first of these essential oils is Helichrysum Italicum, an oil with an earthy aroma, distilled from the small flowers of an herb native to the Mediterranean region. This is the premier oil called for where the skin is in need of regeneration, and where inflammation may be present. Helichrysum is unique in that it contains ‘di-ketones’; a class of molecules that signal the skin to regenerate. It is also often used for bruising and impact related injuries.

Helichrysum essential oil is the cornerstone for many blends for healing the skin, and is the only one necessary for supporting currently healing skin damage - it should be used at appropriate concentrations with Rosehip Seed and Hazelnut oils, as mentioned later in this article. As noted by well-known aromatherapists Kurt Schnaubelt, “The triple unsaturated fatty acids (of Rosehip Seed oil) strengthen the cell membranes and, combined with the regnerative qualities of Everlasting oil (Helichrysum), heal wounds with minimal or no scarring”.

Lavender essential oil the most commonly used aromatic oil due to it’s pleasant, soothing aroma and broad range of healing effects. Lavender is also included in many skin care blends as it also contains ketone molecules which stimulate tissue regeneration. The specific type of lavender oil is distilled from the flowers of the Lavendula angustifolia species. Lavender, also like helichrsum, is an anti-inflammatory, and is generally thought to bring synergy to essential oil blends. It can be included to almost any skin care blend to enhance the effects and aroma.

Next up is the essential oil distilled from the leaves of common Sage, or Salvia officinalis. Sage is used in low concentrations in very specific conditions - where the scars are old and require a little extra phytochemical power to heal. Sage oil can bring circulation to the area, and can assist the scarred area of the skin to regenerate, particularly in concert with other oils. Sage can be used in stretch mark formulas, but should only be employed post-partum because of the high thujone content of the oil.

Rosemary is the final essential oil we’ll cover here for skin healing and scar treatment. Rosemary of the Verbenone chemotype (rather than Cineol, which does not have the same properties) contains regenerative ketones like Lavender and Helichrysum, plus has the added benefit of stimulating the skin’s metabolic process. This oil can bring greater circulation to skin tissues, delivering nutrients and eliminating cellular waste and toxins.

Finally, these essential oils need to be diluted carrier oils, which are seed or nut oils made up of fatty acids. These oils help the skin absorb the essential oils, and provide important nutritive oils to help the skin heal and look its best. The most important is Rosehip Seed oil, cold-pressed from Rosehip Seeds native to mountainous regions of South America. In addition to its unsaturated fatty acids, this oil contains natural vitamin A compounds similar in effect to the pharmaceutical preparation Retin-A but without the over drying or redness that often accompanies its use. Hazelnut oil is also a wonderful carrier well tolerated by all skin types; its gentle astringent qualites prevent the skin from feeling oil upon application.

Now for the recipes. For effective wound healing of recent cuts and scrapes (and has been used successfully on surgical incisions), to 1 ounce Hazelnut oil and 1 ounce Rosehip seed oil add 1 milliliter of Helichrysum essential oil and 1 milliliter of Lavender essential oil - apply twice a day for 7 to 10 days. For older scars from wounds or acne, including keloid scars, replace the Lavender in the previous recipe with Sage essential oil. Apply regularly for 3 to 6 months. For the healing of stretch marks, post partum, use 1 ounce Rosehip seed and 1 ounce Hazelnut oil with 1 milliliter Sage essential oil and 2 milliliters with Rosemary Verbenone essential oil; again use for 3 to 6 months.

So there is a few effective combinations of natural botanical ingredients that can support certain skin care conditions. Many, many more skin care formulas are available when blending essential oils - with many oils able to aid with very particular situations. If needed, a little research should go a long way in helping you find what you need. And as always with aromatherapy oils, go slowly, pay attention to your body’s reactions and remember that increasing concentrations of the essential oils will not make a more effective blend. Be safe and enjoy.

Medicinal Herbs As An Alternative To Main Line Pharmaceuticals.

July 29, 2008

by The Alternate Medic

As you are no doubt aware many of today’s modern medicines are derived from extracts from plants and herbs. Why then is it that modern medicine and more importantly the pharmaceutical industry continue to refute the claimed benefits of consuming medicinal herbs. May it be recognized that contradicting many of these research studies is the fact that many herbs are used in the manufacture of today’s medicine, thereby their claims that medicinal herbs are not useful in protecting and curing some illnesses does not make sense.

In times past when modern medicine tested a medicinal herb it was based on the patients use while its effects were recorded. In a simple way if the result was positive and repeatable, the herb would continue to be prescribed for the particular illness for which id had been used. On the other hand, if the results were singular and not repeatable, its use was discontinued and put on a list of unusable products.

As we reconsider these findings many herbalists believe that thew requirements of the test may have been bias before the tests even started. As is found with conventional medicine, medicinal herbs do not have the same effect on every patient therefore a larger test group would have been better to accurately depict the benefit of the medicinal herb.

In most cases the taking of a medicinal herb usually shows no sign of ill effects, however, there are some natural herbs that can cause problems in humans. Therefore, as with modern medicine, any medicinal herb should be taken with caution and only in prescribed dosages given by a trained herbalist.

Herbs Have Centuries Of History On Their Side

It is commonly believed that the Chinese were the first to use any medicinal herb for treating illnesses. In fact there are medical journals that date back around 5000 years listing various known herbal medications, it has also been discovered that ancient Greece and Egypt counted the medicinal herb as an important part of health care, thousands of yeards ago. Many of the herbs they used are still being used by naturalists around the world and many are also marketed for the specific ailments for which they have been used back then.

Owing to the source and preparation of medicinal herbs, this has been a cause of concern for many medical professionals due to the lack of control over their preparation and use in over the counter products sold in many health and drug stores. Owing to the lack of control in the manufacturing process of these herbal medicines, it is claimed that mixing certain herbs and other natural products may cause side effects

For example, let’s take Red Clover, which grows wild in many parts of the country. It is claimed to have healing qualities for skin ailments such as eczema and psoriasis as well as chronic degenerative diseases and dry cough. The Problem is that there is little or no information concerning the dosage and application of the clover to achieve the benefits. Even though there has been numerous documented successful treatments of eczema, psoriasis etc modern medicine prefers to promote the products of large pharmaceutical companies instead.

Gout Medicine: 3 Gout Medications You Can Take To Lessen the Pain

July 29, 2008

by Sable Woods

While natural gout remedies are an increasingly popular option today, most people still tend to seek gout medicine first to try and rid themselves of inflamed and swollen joints. Medications recommended and prescribed by doctors and other medical specialists are still the main choice to cure ailments, and gout patients follow the same trend. There are several medications designed to lower excess levels of uric acid in your body. In this article, you’ll discover 3 gout medications available to you.

Two of the most common kinds of gout medicine you’ll encounter are NSAIDs and corticosteroids. They help in lessening the inflammation in the distressed joint. The NSAIDs are taken orally and in high dosage. This will also help in hampering the presence and proliferation of prostaglandin, a substance that contributes to the feeling of severe pain during a gout attack.

If NSAIDs aren’t effective for you, then turning to corticosteroids are the next doctor recommendation. Like NSAIDs, these also give instant relief to gout victims. They are injected directly into the inflamed joint to mainly target that area.

But the downside to using corticosteroids is that you can’t use it daily or during subsequent attacks. If you do, your bone cartilage will weaken and your joints will get damaged.

If there are instances where these two medications aren’t effective, you can turn to a drug called colchicines that can be used for the first 12 hours of the attack. This differs from the other two medications since this can be taken once every hour. This kind of gout medicine has the following side effects: diarrhea, unsettled stomach, and abdominal cramps. Colchicines are considered to be the oldest cure to gout. This has been around for centuries, offering the same relief with that of the other medications.

As with most medications, gout medicine has its positives and negatives, so it’s essential that you choose your method of relief carefully. Seek out the help of health professionals and other sufferers for resources that’ll give you the best chance to win your battle with gout.

Sensible Use Of Alternative Medicine For Cancer

July 29, 2008

by The Alternate Medic

Today the usual treatments for cancer entail surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy. For anyone who has suffered through these dibilitating treatments an earnest search for an alternative medicine for cancer to treat the symptoms and increase the overall wellbeing is but natural.

Fortunately modernmedicine has progressed a long way in the treatment and management of all forms of cancer. Even though our knowledge has increased we still have a long way to go before all cancers can be cured. Unfortunately, cancer is taking on new forms and is being diagnosed at a greater frequency all over the world.

Modern medicine still does not provide much hope for those diagnosed with terminal cancer, nor is there much progress in discovering the best means of cancer prevention. Many questions are being asked if our modern agricultural processes and food manufacturing procedures combined with global polution are infact a major cause for the increase in the diagnosis of cancer cases throughout the world.

It is widely believed that alternative medicine for cancer can best be found by altering our diets to contain more fresh organic produce and to include other herbal remedies that are known to assist in regeneration of the body as well as in pain management providing sufferers with a more holistic approach to both prevention and the cure of cancer.

Alternative Medicine for Cancer Prevention

It is well known that adequate fiber content helps to prevent cancers of the digestive tract. Holistic nutrition using coarse grain and unrefined flour are therefore useful forms of alternative medicine for cancer containment. Traditional medicine also has dietary supplements based on the husks of cereals which help to keep bowel movement in good order. It is worth following principles of alternative medicine for cancer prevention if malignancies of the colon and surrounding areas are likely.

Similarly, there are herbal extracts available which help cancerous lesions developing in the liver. The vitamins, minerals, enzymes and elements found in fresh organic fruits and vegetables are known to be the building blocks and the repair kit of the human body It is therefore worthwhile to use alternative medicine for cancer management of vital organs in a pro-active way.

Alternative Medicine for Cancer Treating The Terminally Ill.

The goal of preventing every case of cancer from reaching a stage where it can no longer be successfully treated has not yet been reached, nor is it 100% curable.. Even though most people are now aware of the causes of cancer and that early diagnosis is easier to obtain, many patients may have to spend considerable periods of time in the progressively deteriorating terminal stages of this fatal illness.

Today many people understand that essential nutrition and pain management are key considerations in making the final days of a terminally ill patient as comfortable as possible. Alternative medicine for cancer does provide important applications in this tragic context. Nutrition powders and fluid extracts can be used on patients who are too unwell to enjoy normal meals, while topical preparations can be combined with modern drugs to deal with pain relief.

If a patient is advised by his or her doctor that there is nothing more modern medicine can do to help, naturally they will seek other alternative medicines for cancer even if modern science has not yet substantiated the effects of these medicines. Some patients are known to have exceeded the prognoses for their malignant conditions by long periods using alternative medicine for cancer.

Crystal healing is growing in popularity

July 28, 2008

by Susan Atkinson

Crystal healing is used to treat and purportedly cure a variety of ailments like obesity, congestion, weight management and even cancer and insomnia. The strategy is to draw out the natural energizing force within different crystals as you apply them to the body for a set amount of time.

Crystal healing is basically the ‘laying on’ of stones of different vibrational rates onto the body in order to effect healing and change. It may also involve laying out different energy grids or specific patterns of crystals around the body. Crystal healing is used to enhance healing of a wide range of physical and mental ailments. For example, amethyst is said to be useful against acne, atacamite against venereal diseases, agate against ulcers, and lapis lazuli against stroke symptoms

A simple crystal healing is to place crystals of the appropriate color and energy at corresponding chakra points. This will cleanse and energize the chakras. Besides the Crystal Light Box the other method used in colour crystal healing is with the use of polished gemstones.

The argument for crystal healing is based on the idea that everything has a vibration, and as such, the human body responds to these subtle vibrations. This idea extends even further than just the body.

Crystals have a perfect hexagonal molecular structure that causes them to vibrate at a constant rate. This is what makes them such good components in many modern technological items such as watches and computers. These are amazing, deep tones, and you FEEL the vibration flow throughout your whole body. If you have room in your home or office for a BIG bowl, these are a magnificent choice. Some crystal healers claim that each living organism has a “vibrational energy system,” which includes chakras, electromagnetic fields around the body known as auras , subtle bodies and meridians.

When your gemstones and crystals are not being used for healing purposes they should be placed in a secure location away from curious hands. You don’t want the time and energy you placed in the cleansing and charging of them to be neutralized by the energy of other people.

Using The Power Of Chakra Sound To Enhance Your Life

July 22, 2008

by Nisal Karuiyaratna

The chakra is a Sanskrit word that literally means a spinning wheel or vortex. It’s other meaning are the seven chakras found in the human body which corresponds to the glandular systems of the body. Each chakra is a center of spinning energy where the first chakra is found at the base of the spine while the seventh, at the crown.

Everything moving causes vibrations, and since chakras are centers of spinning energy, there is vibration here. This vibration brings about sound, which is the reason why different body parts vibrate with different frequencies at the different chakras.

There are not only seven independent chakra sounds for the seven chakras but also seven colors associated with the different chakras. These colors also vibrate at different frequencies where both the chakra sound and color helps in the restoration of balance in the chakras. This in turn helps in the restoring of health.

Sound healing using chakra sounds is easy to do; all that is needed is you and your voice to make you feel clearer, better and calmer within minutes. All chakra sounds should be soft and gentle, for no longer than five minutes each.

1. You start with an ‘UH’ sound, which is the deepest sound you can make. You have to do this with your eyes closed and attention focused on the base chakra, found at the spine base. You have to be aware of the sound resonance in the body; not from your throat, but from where the chakra is. You can complement visualization of this chakra sound with red color. This chakra sound has to be made for a minute or two but not more than five minutes.

2. The second chakra sound comes from the second chakra found about three inches below the naval. The chant for this chakra sound is ‘OOO’ which can be complimented with the color orange. Eyes have to be closed for one to two minutes when chanting to realize the balancing of this chakra with other chakras.

3. The third chakra sound “OH” has to come from the navel chakra, found at the navel area. The color for complimenting visualization here is yellow. This chakra sound has to start very softly and gently, but higher than the last sound.

4. The heart chakra is found in the middle of the chest, and its chakra sound is ‘AH’. This is the sound that is emitted when in love, and this is why the heart chakra is usually related to love. This chakra sound can be complimented with the color green and should be started with a gentle and soft sound, that is however of a higher pitch than the last chakra sound.

5. The chakra sound for the throat chakra is ‘EYE’ which is complemented by the color blue and is to be chanted at a higher pitch than previous sounds.

6. In between the forehead and slightly above the two eyes is the chakra sound belonging to the third eye. This chakra sound is ‘AYE’ and is complimented with indigo color. This chakra sound starts with a soft and gentle tone which is however of a higher pitch than the previous sounds.

7. ‘EEE’ is the highest sound you can create for the crown chakra found at the top of the head. Purple can be used for complimenting this chakra sound which starts with the highest ‘EEE’ sound you can make. This chakra sound too starts soft and gentle.

You have to close your eyes when chanting all the chakra sounds while concentrating on different chakras. When you focus on the different chakras, you find chakra sounds projecting from the respective chakras. And with the resonance of the sound chakras, each chakra starts balancing and aligning with other chakras.

You will feel light headed after this exercise with chakra sounds. This is why it is better to meditate or relax after this session. This way you will be able to reap the actual benefits chakra sounds offer you.

Chakra Meditation Revealed

July 22, 2008

by Jonathan Benjem

Meditation provides a much-needed succor to the battered mind and soul. This fact is known for centuries to ancient civilizations, like Hindu. However, the Western world has only just realized the potency of meditation as a means towards a healthy physical and meta-physical existence. Chakra Meditation is one of the Meditation methods that is most popular the world over purely because of its simplicity and effectiveness in bringing about a change in anyone’s life.

Chakra Meditation - Basics

Quite simply, Chakra Meditation refers to the process of balancing and energizing all the 7 energy centers (Chakras) in order to align the flow of energy through them. These 7 energy centers, or the Chakras, are:

1. Crown Chakra is situated at the top of the head. It is related to the ‘thought’ element, which governs our wisdom, knowledge, and consciousness.

2. Orange or Naval or Sacral Chakra located at the center of abdomen and related to the element ‘Water’. It governs our emotions and sexuality.

3. Solar Plexus or Power Chakra located just above the naval region and related to the element ‘Fire’. It governs our will power, autonomy, and metabolism.

4. Heart Chakra is situated right at the center of the chest. It is related to the ‘Air’ element, which governs our feelings of love, compassion, and general relationships.

5. Throat Chakra located at the base of the throat and related to the element ‘Sound’. It governs clear communication, creativity, and resonance during our entire lifespan.

6. Orange Chakra, also called the Naval or Sacral Chakra, is situated at the center of abdomen. It is related to the ‘Water’ element, which governs our sexuality and emotions.

7. Crown Chakra located at the top of the head and related to the element ‘thought’. It governs consciousness, wisdom, and knowledge.

By concentrating and synchronizing these vital energy centers, one can achieve a calming influence on the mind resulting in stress-free existence and a contented life. Chakra Meditation also helps in naturally healing any ailment related to these 7 vital energy centers.

Chakra Meditation - The Process

Chakra Meditation involves three techniques in this order:

1. Grounding Technique refers to the process whereby, your body feels connected with Earth. The visualization involves assuming a root growing from your body and entering into the Earth, thus, transfixing your body to the ground. With some intense focus and determination, you can achieve this state of Chakra Meditation.

2. Centering Technique. This technique is vital as it prepares your body to receive the benefits of Chakra Meditation. Again, the application of this technique is not too difficult. Just take 4-5 deep breaths and feel every body part from head to toe getting relaxed. This process involves tightening and relaxing each body part from toe, and then visualizing the act of a potter who centers a pot on the pottery wheel.

3. Relaxation Technique refers to the process whereby, the body feels relaxed by an act of visualization that suits an individual the best. Every individual is free to adopt his or her own relaxation method.

Here is a simple method of performing Chakra Meditation:

a) Sit or lie down comfortably.

b) Close your eyes and loosen your clothing. The idea is to be in a natural state without any kind of artificial compulsion on the body and mind.

c) Breathe in a relaxed manner, which is neither too fast nor too slow. Let the breath come naturally!

d) The next step relates to feeling every part of your body from toe to head in that direction. While your eyes are closed, try to feel everything that you would’ve seen with open eyes, like earth, air, clothes, surroundings etc. The idea is to feel awareness even with closed eyes.

e) Initially, your efforts will be met with stiff resistance from negative thoughts and emotions. Don’t suppress them! They’ll disappear with time and practice.

f) Don’t hinder your awareness! Let it flow freely from one part of the body to another.

Do this exercise for any length of time and at any time of the day!

Health and Happiness Through Chakra Balancing!

July 19, 2008

by Jonathan Benjem

A consequence of modern science has been the eradication from people’s minds of the survival and significance of the spiritual being within the physical being.

The Hindu thinking of life, on the other hand, has kept the flame of spiritual-healing burning amidst the growth in science and technology.

Our body is made up of 7 primary Chakras as well as thousands of secondary ones. ‘Chakra’, in fact, is a Sanskrit word meaning ‘Wheel of Light’, and these Chakras are in a constant state of rotation and vibration in a healthy body.

As a result, an imbalance in the vibration of these chakras results in a corresponding imbalance of the healthy functioning of the body. So, Chakra Balancing needs to be done to ensure a healthy body, mind, and soul.

Chakras are Entrance Gates of the Aura and the central points that obtains, incorporates and conveys life-force energy. Situated along the central line of the body - from the base of the spine to the top of the head - the seven main Chakras take and transmit energies to and from the universe, nature, celestial bodies and other people.

What distorts Chakra Balancing?

When one or more of the Chakras is blocked and the energy does not flow harmoniously through them, the result will be an imbalance among the Chakras that is manifested in all areas of life.

The correct functioning of the Chakras can distort due to a number of factors, like bad health, stress, unbalanced diet, toxicity, not enough exercise, repressing emotions, untrue beliefs, detachment from a higher power, childhood traumas, cultural conditioning and emotional traumas, etc.

Chakra balancing is Truly the Key to Health and Happiness

The normal harmonious functioning of Chakras is a utopian idea. So humans have always attempted to correct this distortion and strike a fine balance among these Chakras. The concept of self-healing is also based on Chakra balancing.

Chakras manipulate our body shape, glandular functions, chronic physical illness, thoughts, and behavior. Chakra balancing ensures that these parameters are working towards a healthy body, mind, and soul.

The benefits of Chakra Balancing include:

* Complete happiness and peace in body

* Physical health with individual strength

* Perception and continuous feel with one’s body

* Sexually content life without getting influenced by lust

* Knowledge of individual’s feelings at the unearthly level

* Superior capacity to attract and convey love in one’s life

* Accelerated spiritual growth and development

* Spiritual healing through higher patterns of consciousness, awareness, and acceptance

* A kind and affectionate heart

* Tremendous confidence levels, but short of being over-confident

* Understanding of the True Self

Successful chakra balancing

Chakra Balancing in one’s body can be achieved by employing different techniques. Primarily, you can use one or more of the following techniques in order to harmonize the Chakra functioning in your body:

* Therapeutic Therapies for example Reiki,

* Yoga (including breathing exercises) and Meditation

* Exercise of body

* Light and Color treatment

* Crystals and Gems

* Harmonizing with Hands and Pendulums

* Aromatherapy

* Feeling Therapy

* Optimistic outlook

* Sound Frequencies

* Affirmations and Hypnosis sessions, etc.

Our body is a store house of energy, in which the used energy is disposed of by the body organs, and refilled, with a new supply of energy.

Chakra balancing ensures that this energy is gained and utilized by the body optimally, and all vital organs and body cells get their fair share of this energy.

When your Chakras are returned to their natural frequencies, inner peace, well being and happiness follows. Chakra Balancing is simply getting the Chakras back to their normal state of vibration.
