Sticky Fingers And Wet Kisses: The Pitfalls Of Work At Home Moms
July 30, 2008
It sounds like the perfect situation, doesn’t it: Having the freedom to stay at home with your children while also earning a respectable income? And why shouldn’t it work? While your children happily play with their toys, you can work on the computer. And while your little ones nap, you can be having a conference call with a client and also be icing a birthday cake. So simple, so straightforward. It’s a wonder why everyone isn’t doing this.
Well, not so fast. The reality that work-at-home moms often face can very different. A child’s schedule isn’t predictable. You might be constantly interrupted from your work at the computer, turning a 5 to 10 minute task in an office setting into an hour-long ordeal. And your precious toddler might decide to throw an ear-splitting tantrum a few minutes into that important call with your most important client.
Unfortunately, very few things are as easy as they first appear, escpecially when kids are involved. So how do successful women balance working from home and being a mother? And what are the pitfalls that they have learned to watch out for?
First, you need time to get the work done. In order to do this, you may want to consider hiring a babysitter or nanny to watch after your little ones while you work. The babysitter or nanny can keep your kids entertained and safe. However, this is an extra cost that can severely reduce your earnings. If you have an older child, you may be able to enlist him or her to watch the younger ones. This isn’t a perfect solution. You will still be frequently called upon to break up arguments and soothe hurt feelings whenever the siblings don’t agree.
And it’s not only the kids that are causing the trouble. Their pets have to be watched after as well. One mom who earns her living from on-line auctions reports that her children’s dog goes bananas whenever the delivery van comes to the house. The dog barks loud enough to give her a headache. But what can she do? Her children love the dog.
One solution to the problem of finding time to get the work done is to work at night when the kids are in bed. To do this, you will have to find a position that doesn’t have set work hours, such as bookkeeping or a position with flexible customer service calls hours. At night, the house is usually quiet and interruptions are rare. However, in order for this to work, you need to be a person who doesn’t require a lot of sleep or who can recharge with your children when they take their naps. Otherwise, you’ll be drowsy and cranky the next day when you have to put in a full day of taking care of your children.
Depending on the job performed, there are other pitfalls of working from home and being a mother. Pay can be low: sometimes work-at-home moms are not paid for their work. Sometimes employers find ways of rejecting the work claiming poor quality. Benefits such as health coverage and pension plans are scarce. But the work-at-home mom knows that those children she has raised can be counted on to take her in and car for her in her elder years.
Finally, the worst pitfall of working from home and being a mother is the lack of adult contact. There is no water cooler chatter of coffee break gossip; mom?s day is full of sticky fingers, ?look what I found under the leaves,? and candy coated wet kisses. The pitfall most moms would choose any day.

How to Paint Leather
July 29, 2008
When people perform leatherworking projects, they often look for new and innovational ways to make their projects better. One way that people increase the value of their leather projects is to paint the leather. Before you decide to paint the leather for your project, it is very crucial that you know how to properly do so. Here, you will find many tips to help guide you in painting leather.
Leather should be properly cleaned prior to trying to paint it. This is a very important step in ensuring that the paint holds well to the leather. You can clean the leather by mixing equal parts of warm water and bleach that is appropriate for leather. Once you combine the mix and stir it, you should then apply it to the piece of leather that you are working with. You should use a brush that is soft when applying the cleaner to the leather that you are working with.
Once the piece of leather that you are working with is cleaned well, it is essential to allow the item to dry for a minimum of an hour. While the leather is drying, you should flex it in different directions to build the durability of the project. Once the project is dry, you should thoroughly check the leather to ensure that all the dampness is removed prior to painting the leather.
Once you are ready to begin painting the leatherworking project, you should make sure that you have paint available that will work with the type of leather that you have selected. You can visit a local craft shop to purchase paint for working with leather. Many people; however, select acrylic paint when they are working with leather. Prior to purchasing the paint, you must be certain that it will work with your project and the type of leather that you have chosen. If it does not, you stand a risk of ruining the leather piece that you are working with.
The first thing that you should do is to take a small amount of water and mix it with the paint that you are going to use on your leather. You should then apply this mixture over the entire leather piece. This will sort of bond the paint to the leather to ensure that the paint you put on after this sticks better to the leather. You should thoroughly cover the leather, or all visible signs of the leather.
Once the initial water mix coat is applied to the piece of leather that you are working with, you can then apply your first full coat of paint on the leather. It is very significant that you apply the paint on the piece of leather in an even way. Once the paint is applied, you should allow it to thoroughly dry. Once it is dry, you should then flex the leather once more. This will ensure that the leather is sturdy, yet flexible.
The Lemons of Life Can Make Lemonade
July 29, 2008
Even though life may seem to be filled with negative thoughts, the positive thoughts of life are just as easy to conjure up with the right mind set. Negative thoughts are energy drainers that are quick to turn any positive situation into a dread in no time flat.
Filling the mind with negative thoughts is similar to a disease. Those thoughts eat away at the mind and the happiness in life and they gain more and more strength the longer they are in the mind. For people who choose to think negatively instead of positively, it becomes almost second nature to find themselves in the midst of horrid situations. The realities of life become so ingrained in negative thought that they often find themselves lost to the world of happiness.
According to the millions of self-help books on the market today, negative thinking creates a negative energy that almost beings to control one’s life. On the other hand, practicing a more positive mind set can almost evoke positive feelings and thoughts thus changing the path of life. For those who are looking for the best ways to improve overall life happiness, positive thinking is at the heart of this goal.
Once a person allows themselves to open up and release those negative thoughts positive thinking is easy. It is often fear, yes fear, that holds us back in the life of positive thinking. When we think positively about situations it often sets the mind up for failure. These failures are more difficult to deal with than the day to day lives of negative thoughts. At least with the negative thoughts, we know what to expect. In order to move from a negative mind set to a positive mind set, all holds on life need to be lifted and confidence in who we are and the abilities we have restored.
Yet another trick to achieving those positive thoughts is confidence. Having confidence in the decisions you make, the achievements both personally and from within your job, the confidence to be all that you can be even if it takes a bit more work than the negative side of life.
Yet another aspect of positive thinking is being thankful for the things we already have achieved in life. These achievements took dedication and time spent working toward a positive goal. The homes we live in, the children we birth, the education we have achieved are all accomplishments and need to be given their due praise. Once we take a step back from lifes expectations and look at what we have already achieved, positive thinking seems all the more easy to do.
Also, try transferring the energy you spend dreading the inevitable into something more positive. Instead of spending energy on complaining about the fact that you are about to be laid off from the job you hated anyway, put that energy into figuring out how to use this time to create the job you always wanted. We have the power to design our own lives; or if you believe in fate then believe that what has happened has happened for a reason and you only have to look for the positive opportunity that fate is providing.
Life is all about our minds and the path our minds take to positivity. When we choose to live in the negative lights of life, the drain on our souls is evident in the lack of positive thoughts. Opening up our hearts to positive thinking will improve life and the chance of meeting all our positive dreams.
Trust Me; No One Will Overlook an Oceana Glass Kitchen Sink.
July 29, 2008
Kitchen basin creators have at last figured out the truth that everyone gathers in this place not matter where in the world you go, it happens! In addition, of course, everybody who ever walks into the kitchen can’t avoid looking straight into the basins.
Designers Hear Our Pleas Kitchen basins have been overlooked for far too long. Happily, manufacturer has at last listened to the plea from of those who are tired of tired looking ceramic or stainless steel. Creators are making fashionable basins using groundbreaking materials.
Glass Kitchen Sinks I recognize what you may be asking: “A glass sink - in the kitchen?” Yes! Oceana Glass Sinks are made from “Hard Roc” glass, a special nonporous, and tarnish resilient glass invented by Jeanette Specialty Glass Company, among the oldest glass companies in the United States.
You might have considered that glass was too fragile for purposes of a food preparation of a basin. Remarkable “Hard Roc” glass is extra scrape resistant as opposed to both stainless steel and porcelain, and it is impermeable to the elements as well as to a lot of chemicals and liquids. “Hard-Roc” glass is seamless and hygienic.
Oceana glass basins are available in 17 shades, and each shade comes with a matching glass tile which you may make use of to coordinate you’re the top of your counters, backsplashes, kitchen cabinets, and appliances. This helps tie together the look of you room. Trust me; no one will overlook an Oceana glass kitchen sink.
Flat Sinks Your visitors will certainly look twice at your Washplane flat basin - it appears to be a completely flat countertop, nevertheless water stream over it and downward through the drain, really akin to a usual basin. Omvivo shaped the washplane theory in 1996 by designer Joseph Licciardi.
Mr. Licciardi saw that barely anybody ever plugged the basin any more. He found that they did not want to use water that got dirty and they preferred to work with fresh water that ran endlessly. The flat basin makes use of particularly created taps resulting in splash free flow water collection on a seamless, hygienic shell.
Smart Divide Kitchen Sinks Smart Divide Kitchen Sinks by Kohler unite good-looking fashion with innovative functionality: a half-height separator in a kitchen basin.
The separator is deep sufficient to hold soapy water to one-side of the basin and a colander filled with food safe from the soap on the opposite side of the separator, but it is low enough to let big pots and pans below the taps for clean-up.
Most of the contemporary basins are intended for under mount or flush mount installation, making cleanup a snap. It’s great that we have stopped ignoring the most used basins in the house. The basins that we all use to prepare the food that we all eat.

Tips to Save Your Marriage
July 29, 2008
My husband was 25 and I was 20 years of age it’s enough to make you want to take a walk down the aisle with our baby 7 months old bumped between us. Who would have thought that we’d end up 5 kids and 18 years later still together? Alas!
Take your time to get to know the person before you marry. You need to ask yourself: “Is this the person you want to walk on the beach with when your hands are wrinkled and you walk slowly.” A young boy and girl dressed in white wedding attire strolling down the church isles to a wedding arch. People thought we were doomed. Who would imagine that we we’d end up to 5 kids and 18 years later we are still together. The path to greater wealth may start with making a commitment–of the romantic kind.
My husband and I may not have been married as long as others but, along the way, we discovered that there are some common concepts that cut across marriages we have known to be successful-think of it about 30’s,40’s or 50’s. The relationship has to be based on mutual respect, common purpose, and trust. Both parties need to identify what they want out of life and then continue that dialogue throughout their marriage. It doesn’t take that much time, but it does take focus, and patience.
A few steps on your part toward improving your marriage will work wonders towards making your marriage strong, secure and content:
Knowing yourself, is a hard to accomplish task; to look deeply in the mirror and see the person you have become through your life choices. Most of us are conscious of the physical aspects of a person i.e. the exterior form. Every person has a different soul and temperament. The physical aspects of people may look alike, but there are very few with whom our souls meet. Expose yourself to ideas and experiences that will help you evolve, develop your self-esteem.

Love as a decision. It is a statement that reminds couples to love the person, not the behavior. This situation can attract men plus women too. It means that LOVE is commitment that you made with your full, whole consciousness as a mature, self-actualized human being.
Love is a doing word. Feeling it and showing it are two different things. It requires commitment. It sometimes hurts and doesn’t feel so good. But what does the world know of the kind of love that the Bible defines anyway? It’s in the First Letter to the Corinthians, Chapter 13.
3. Communicate, communicate and communicate. Continue to communicate. People have a misconception of what communication is. They think that it’s simply talking. After a few years, it’s easy to fall into everyday routine. Staying connected takes effort from both sides. That is the first you need to do.
3. Communication. Of course, that is the first thing to do. Both can attract men and women. The first important thing to remember about communication in marriage is to consistently use “I” statements as opposed to starting out a sentence with the word “You.” While this may sounds like a simple change to make that might not make a whole lot of difference, as any therapist knows, “You” statements tend to sounds accusatory, causing the other spouse to feel defensive.
The second part of the communication cycle is listening. It is more important than the first. When you truly listen, you hear both what is being said. You learn to pick up cues verbal and non-verbal communication. From this you may hear the inner sense and begin to use comprehension and understanding.
Listening. Being able to listen to your mate when they require it encourages them to talk when they need to. Do not interrupt them. Let them reveal what they need to and then take your turn. When a partner feels that the other person is not attentive, their lines of communicating shut down. Support is required in order to keep sharing what’s going on with each other. When that support is broken, the lines of communicating will close down immediately.
4. It’s not Me, it’s WE. Many couples fail to realize that once they enter a relationship, they are no longer just two individuals. Take matters seriously. If your partner brings up a concern he or she has, take it seriously. Do not brush it off as meaningless. If it is a concern for them, it needs to be worked out, so help support them in that matter. If you do not take it in earnest, they will not take you seriously and communicating will cease to exist.
Sustaining these key points in your relationship can guarantee that the lines of communicating will remain open. You will be able to develop a healthy relationship that will last a lifetime. Building a strong relationship is never entirely easy, but the rewards will keep on coming if you just hang in there. Numerous other tips and guidelines couples can learn from to improve their marriages but I find these 4 will serve them through the years.
Wainscot Is The Perfect Addition To Drywall
July 29, 2008
Although many are unfamiliar with what wainscoting is, it has become a very popular form of wall design or dcor. It’s actually been used for over a hundred years, but went “out of style” for many years and recently has come back full force. Wainscot is paneling of some sort that is used on the lower half of your walls in your home. This paneling may be marble, wood, ceramic tile, heavy fabrics or wood. With more and more homeowners steering towards wood in their homes, wood has become the wainscot of choice for most. Originally, wood wainscoting consisted of wood wagon siding, which was very plentiful in those days.
Wainscoting can be any height the homeowner wants, but it usually goes up to 48 inches or half the height of the wall, sometimes slightly less. The top half of the wall is usually drywall. The wainscoting will usually run vertically with a top edge, or trim, running horizontally. When wainscot was first used in the mid-nineteenth century, usually tongue and groove boards ran vertically and were nailed down. Some would also have designs created by wood working jigs. Wainscot was used to hide imperfections in the wall as well as joints, but now it is just used for appearance and durability.
There are also many other styles of wainscot besides wood. They began as a fashion statement in dining rooms in the 1900s. They often were as tall as 5 feet or more, were sold as panels 18 to 24 inches wide, and were separated by three-inch moldings. The most popular choice for the wainscot at that time was cloth such as burlap, heavy linen or grasscloth.
Wainscoting now is more popular than ever. Homeowners seem to like change in their home every few years. For many years, drywall the latest fad. Everyone painted their walls the color of their choice. Then 4′X8′ wood product paneling took over the home decorating world by storm. Every women wanted to redecorate rooms with paneling. It looked like real wood and was easy to clean and economical to buy. Years later, drywall appeared and, once again, we’re painting our walls.
Suddenly real wood was in style again, but few could afford to do their walls in all wood. Many chose to just do one or two walls in tongue and groove wood. Suddenly the idea of wainscot became the perfect solution. Only doing half a way made it more affordable, still allowing the room to have drywall. It’s considered by many as the best choice and perfect for any room in the house. Another thing that makes it perfect is that it’s easy to maintain. The heaviest traffic areas in your home, between kids and dogs, are the bottom of the walls. Wainscot can easily be wiped clean.
Darth Vader Costumes - A Popular Halloween Disguise
July 29, 2008
Star Wars fanatics come in all shapes and sizes. Opening night of a Star Wars movie at any theater is always a huge event where all kinds of fans come dressed up as their favorite characters. After having waited in line for days just to get into the cinemas, fans don costumes of Darth Vader or Storm Troopers and can easily be spotted in the crowd.
Darth Vader costumes tend to be designed for those fans truly obsessed with the world of Star Wars. That’s because they are not easy to arrange and tend to be very difficult to both put on and take off.
Ever since I was a kid, I’ve wanted a real, high-tech Darth Vader suit. I remember seeing one in a movie memorabilia store back in the 80’s, and my young imagination started picturing me in a heated lightsaber duel with some Jedi Knight.
The imagination may be a little less active these days, but I’d still like to go all out one year for Halloween and splurge for a super-detailed Darth Vader. I’ve never been one for those nerdy conventions where everybody argues the little details about Star Wars that George Lucas most likely never thought of himself so Halloween is the only time I’d get away with dressing as the Sith Lord.
If you’re thinking of a Darth Vader costume for Halloween this year, it’s time to get on the ball. The big night isn’t far away, and the best costumes get harder to find as you get closer to the night.
Many Internet costume shops offer great Darth Vader costumes and will gladly ship your order until just a few days before Halloween. Waiting until the last moment, however, might mean that your dream costume has been sold out.
Unless you’ve got a professional costume shop close to home, you’ll find a much better selection (and much higher quality costumes) on the internet. The average superstore or drug store costume just doesn’t cut it if you want to really get into the part.
Whoever you may be, young or old, male or female; a full body Darth Vader costume can be your ultimate costume. Complete with a mask to hide your identity (if you so choose), great movie quotes, and some creepy breathing sounds, a Darth Vader costume will liven up your Halloween for sure.
Buying High Pressure Air Compressor
July 29, 2008
Air compressors are vital in order to power certain types of power tool. Many companies prefer using this type of power tool because they are much more efficient and some people think that they are better for you. The kind of compressor which you choose to buy depends completely on the types of tools which you will be using. Good makes to consider include Copeland compressors, Quincy compressors and Husky air compressors.
Factors to Consider in an Air Compressor
You need to think about how you will use the air compressor, and how often it will be used. Which types of tools will you be using with this compressor? Different types of tools will require a different amount of power. Nail guns need a higher volume compressor than a drill. Tools like drills or sanders need a steady flow of air and so do not require such a high volume compressor.
Air compressors are available in all sorts of budgets, you should set a budget which you can afford to spend. Certain brands can be very expensive, but that doesn’t mean that they are really that much better. One way to get a good compressor without having to pay a fortune is to buy a second hand air compressor.
You need to also consider the type of pump which will be used. Most air compressors are either direct drive or belt driven. Direct driven machines last for about five hundred hours of use, these are much smaller than other machines. If you don’t plan on using the compressor very often then one of these direct drive solutions would work very well. Direct driven machines do not need any oil. Belt driven machines will last much longer, up to 1500 hours. These are much better for professional use however will need oil changes every five hundred hours.
The power of all air compressors will be quoted in both horsepower and pounds per square inch. Both of these are important although they refer to different things. Make sure that your tools are powerful enough to power everything that you need. Check all of the tools which you will be using before buying your compressor.
Another thing which you must bear in mind is the size of the tank. Common compressors are available with tanks from two gallons right up to one hundred gallons. The longer that you use for tools for, the bigger tank size you need to have. Air on the side of caution and buy a slightly larger tank than you will think that you’ll need.
Shopping Around for an Affordable Air Compressor
You must shop around before choosing which air compressorto buy. You should try to compare the machines like for like.
You don’t have to buy a new machine you could consider buying a reconditioned air compressor. Reconditioned machines are second hand, but have been inspected and any worn out parts have been replaced. Most of these didn’t get much use and are in very good condition.
You could consider shopping online as you may be able to get a much better buy.
