Why a GPS Cell Phone is a Must Have

January 2, 2009

by Pete Ross Christopher Geller Rick Sidnel

Global positioning technology has evolved extensively over the years, and the benefits seen from the commercialization of GPS for consumer use is widespread. Although this revolutionary technology was originally developed for the military, it has enjoyed more success in the consumer market.

If a cell phone comes with GPS built in, it is designated a GPS cell phone. Whether you are walking or in a vehicle, you can quickly pull out your cell phone and determine your exact location. This freedom and mobility is what makes GPS cell phone unique.

When most people hear the phrase GPS, they think of the products in cars that give turn-by-turn directions. In fact, the voice directions are one of the few benefits traditional GPS systems have that cell phones don’t. Once cell phones acquire this capability, the need for original GPS probably won’t be needed.

GPS has many uses, but the most important is definitely for emergencies. With all the travel people do these days, it can become easy to get lost. GPS can instantly get you out of a bind, whether it really is an emergency or not.

When you call 911, emergency services work with your cell phone carrier to find your location. Although the issue of privacy has arisen, location information is only given out in times of emergency, which is when everybody would have no qualms about privacy and just want help.

The primary benefit people think about when it comes to GPS is finding places without a map. Indeed, you will never need to look at a map again if you have a quality GPS cell phone. All you need to do is type in the address you are going to, and step-by-step directions are instantly created for you to follow.

Another feature of GPS, which is primarily useful to parents, is the child tracking option. If parents are suspicious or just want to know where their kids are, they can find out whenever they want by using GPS. A parent should tell their child about said tracking, but it is not required.

The ever increasing efficiency of the technological industry will soon make GPS available to almost everyone who owns a cell phone. The days of getting lost in the deserts of Arizona or the mountains of Colorado will be long gone, and people will be able to feel a little bit safer while driving in to unknown territory.

Review for the Panasonic EP 30004 Massage Chair

November 9, 2008

by James Knolan

The focus of this review is the Panasonic EP 30004 which is part of the Real Pro Ultra series of massage chairs. Unlike most massage recliner reviews, we follow a systematic approach to the review process. We review 5 important areas of the purchase of this product. The 5 areas we use for the review include: Warranty & Customer Service, Comfort/Ergonomics, Ease of Use, Features and Massage Therapy. The overall rating is given by adding up the points earned in each category for a total possible score of 100 points. Here is our evaluation of the EP30004.

Warranty & Customer Service: With any electronic equipment or big ticket item, warranty protection is critical. Although, most massage chairs are built well, there are occasional problems. In this case, you want to make sure you have adequate protection. The EP 30004 comes with a 3 year parts and 1 year labor warranty from the manufacturer. We find this as fairly short and recommend you consider purchasing an extended warranty if it is offered. Customer service is dependent on the retailer the chair is purchased and is thus highly variable. Panasonic earns a 15 in this category.

Comfort & Ergonomics: Massage chair recliners usually have a dual function. One is obviously to massage, but the other is as a recliner. Therefore, comfort is usually an important consideration, since the chair may not always be used in the massage mode. A recliner should be comfortable to sit on. The Panasonic Real Pro Ultra comes with padded armrests. There is a comfortable, soft upholstered head pillow to support the head. We found the recliner is comfortable to sit in. The leg ottoman is adjustable out an extra 5 inches, which helps to target your legs better. The Real Pro Ultra is well designed from an ergonomic point of view. Overall Rating for Panasonic comfort and ergonomics and customer service is 18.

Ease of Use: We are seeing an increasing amount to features being built into massage chairs. This is a very positive and beneficial development. The other side of this is being able to keep the control simple and easy to use. Panasonic has a good understanding of this dilemma and includes a voice guidance system built into the remote. If you need help with running a certain aspect of the chair, then the voice guidance is there to walk you through the steps. Otherwise, the controller comes with one touch automatic programs. It has an LCD showing what massage functions are running in the chair. There are a myriad of manual programming options which are fairly simple to use. We like this controller and its layout. We rate this chair a 19 for ease of use.

Key Features: The Real Pro Ultra series of chairs comes with a new massage technique developed by Panasonic. This massage technique is called Junetsu or ultra fine kneading. This Junetsu massage provides targets the muscles with one-second circular thumb movements like that of a professional massage therapist. Junetsu quickly loosens up tight muscles. The spiral circular motion reverberates down through the muscles to invigorate you down to the surface of your bones. This function is a very effective and quick way to get the muscles to release. The other important new feature in the EP 30004 is the shoulder and arm stretch. This function actually provides traction for the arm and shoulder. The stretch is accomplished by the airbags holding the arm and then the chair back moves back slightly to stretch out the arm and shoulder area. This helps to remove tension and to increase your flexibility and joint mobility. The EP 30004 earns a 19 in key features.

Massage Therapy: The massage functions built into the Panasonic EP-30004 include both automatic and manual programs. There are four 15-minute Pre-Programs, One 5-minute Quick Program and One 15-minute Self Program. There are 4 full body automatic courses and 5 different massage speed settings. The automatic massage functions include the following: Shiatsu, Gentle, Deep and Refresh. Panasonic has developed its exclusive Junetsu or ultra fine kneading massage system in the Real Pro Ultra. This chair provides high quality and realistically replicated massage therapies. There are two stretching functions. There is a lower body stretch and the shoulder stretch. The lower body is covered with 22 airbags including the hands, arms, buttocks, calves and feet. This chair also provides both Swedish and shiatsu style massages for excellent massage coverage. Overall Rating for the Panasonic EP 30004 massage recliner for massage therapy is 19.

How does the Panasonic Real Pro Ultra EP-30004 rate on an overall basis? Summing up the score, our overall rating of the Panasonic EP 30004 is a 90/100. Panasonic continues its innovation with cutting edge massage therapies such as the Junetsu massage technique and the shoulder stretch. The technologies incorporated into this massage recliner are solid. We are still a bit disappointed with the aesthetics of this chair, which is very plain. Panasonic has incorporated an extendable ottoman which helps reach a taller user more effectively. The massage therapy tends to be a bit lighter than other chairs which over longer term use may be a concern for some. But, overall, this is a well designed and effective massage chair recliner. If you are looking for a shiatsu recliner in this price range, then this is one you should check out.

Tips For Installing Surround Sound

August 11, 2008

by Lee Dobbins

Without surround sound, a home theater is seriously lacking. If you want that authentic movie theater feel, you need to consider installing surround sound. The depth and richness of surround sound will blow your regular old speakers out of the water. It will allow you to get lost in a movie like never before.

With the inclusion of a digital media port the good surround speakers will be more versatile in respect of adaptability and functions. With this digital media port you can play music from your ipod, your computer or any Bluetooth device and take the audio on those devices as well. This will also make extraordinary tone and range that the speakers will produce.

You want to make sure you go for quality when choosing surround sound speakers. To get a good surround sound you will need at least 5 speakers. Normally the systems have 3 to5 wall mountable speakers and a subwoofer. The wall speakers give a wide sound field, a good resounding sound and so the more they are in number ,the better will be the sound. Two front speakers, a center speaker, and two rear speakers and a subwoofer will complete the enthralling experience you wish to get .

For installing surround sound systems you have to run wires across the room, which can be a pain. Since some speakers have to be in the back ,it will require going under the seating or along the wall. One way is to drill holes in the floor and run the wires from the basement (assuming your home theater is on the first floor!. The whole messy wire business can be cut out if you go with wireless.

There are additional specifics you may want to look for. For example, if you want to put your center speaker close to the television, buy one that is magnetically shielded; otherwise you run the risk of distorting your image. (Make sure you know before you buy if this is the way you want to arrange your solution.) The subwoofer you buy also needs to have its own power supply.

Finding the right receiver is crucial for your Surround Sound experience. The ideal receiver will allow you to control movie and music output separately, to plug in headphones and other accessories easily, and has at the minimum a 4-channel Dolby Pro Logic decoder. Additionally, Auto Calibration and Digital Cinema Sound will provide the crispest listening experience. Finally, buy the highest-wattage receiver you can afford.

Installing surround sound can be tricky and time consuming, so to save time and stress consider hiring a pro. The important part isn’t installation but selecting the right components for your system, anyway.

Blu Ray vs. HD DVD Duplication, What Differs?

July 29, 2008

by Ivan j Finch

Have you ever purchased something at a store and then asked yourself, “I just paid $40 for this but it probably only cost 40 cents in materials to make?” It’s sort of a natural instinct, especially for anyone who’s worked in retail, to size up the value in their heads.

According to optical disc industry officials, the cost of DVD duplication for a Blu Ray disc is quite high. A single layer HD DVD, with the capacity or 15GB, costs $1.15 to manufacture. A 25 GB Blu Ray disc costs $1.30, whereas your standard Dual Layer DVD would cost $0.50. This of course is all assuming that you’re buying 25,000 discs at a shot. Across town, at another Blu Ray DVD authoring plant, single-layer Blu Ray discs are going for $1.35 - $1.45, while the 50 GB dual-layer Blu Rays are going for $2.15 - $2.25! If you’re doing the math, that’s roughly 45 cents per GB. Also, don’t forget there’s a setup cost that could be as much as $5,000 per line.

Despite the high costs of Blu Ray-DVD duplication, there may be some hope on the horizon for consumers who just want to do their own Blu Ray DVD authoring at home.

You may have been using a DVD duplication burner for many years now. Many consumers like burning back-up discs for their collection or (illegally) sharing their movies with friends and family. There is also a chance you’ll want to burn home movies onto a BR-DVD to watch on TV, and if you’re an amateur filmmaker or musician, then there are obvious benefits to being able to record in the new Blu Ray format.

For a regular computer, Pioneer has a line of relatively inexpensive bare bones (single layer) Blu Ray burners for $155 - $179. Of course, the drives for laptops are slightly more expensive and must be bought internally at the time of purchase. The ranges go up to $660 for LaCie and $360 for the more futuristic-looking Lite-On. Most burners will also burn CDs and regular DVDs. Then, of course, there are the brand new double layer burners retailing currently at $500 that allow copy protection and the ability to burn to 50 GB. This is only the beginning of consumer costs, though, because you haven’t even gotten into BD-R disc costs yet.

Maybe in the future, HD DVD duplication won’t be so brutal, but right now it’s unwise to think you’ll be raking in huge cash or getting the best deal by burning your high-definition movies at home.

Until new blue laser/large capacity/multi-layer burning technology is available to catch up with the latest innovations, you’ll be saddled with higher costs no matter what. If you’re not the patient type, then your best bet is to buy the system and look for Blu Ray sales at Amazon, Blockbuster, Circuit City or Best Buy.

PlayStation 3 Accessories: Better than ever before

July 29, 2008

by Paul de Vizard

The PlayStation 3 is an example of how console gaming has changed over the few years it has been around. It has become a lot more complex at the same time becoming easier to use.

What’s more important, the PlayStation 3 is not limited to being played only by adults. All ages are now becoming involved. This means that the quality in the PlayStation 3 accessories needs to step up to keep up with demand.

80 MB Memory Storage

The best example of the changes and is the advances in storage. The large size of storage and the ability to save characters and levels during the game, increases the enjoyment of every new game that comes on the market.

Logitech Driving Force

A good example of useful PlayStation 3 accessories is the Logitech Driving Force Pro Steering Wheel. The quality of this accessory is that it allows you to use it like a normal car steering wheel, and gives the PlayStation game a more realistic feel and it even lets a gamer experience the game under different road conditions, and weather in the game.

The only thing missing in the wind and car body roll! In some cases, the feel of the steering wheel is very realistic compared to the real thing.

The Sony Network Adaptor

Another useful PlayStation 3 accessory is the Sony Network Adaptor. This Network Adapter connects to the Expansion bay on your Playstaion 3 and provides you with an online connection.

This allows you to play the online gaming areas with others who are also connected. You can select the speed at which you can connect — between a 56k modem, or a 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet connection and also add to the replay value of your favorite games by challenging people around the world.

There is always a big accessory market existing that runs with each type of gaming console being sold. This means PlayStation 3 accessories are always being made that will increase the gaming experience even more. More suppliers and increased demand is good for gamers and this lowers prices.

You can also find good PlayStation 3 accessories at visit Eopinions.com and also CNET.com where you will get useful information about the proper PlayStation 3 accessories that make it easier for you to buy the right kind of accessory.

Also new cordless headsets and controllers mean less getting tangled up with wires. This is great for the involvement of the playstation3 as the enjoyment and involvement of the game increases, so do the amount of players.

The main point is that there are many PlayStation 3 accessories, each of which will help you get more enjoyment for your PS3 experience. Among other accessories, wireless controllers are a must as it’s the way of the future.

In some ways console gaming is following the path of TV, but a lot faster. Color TVs originally stated with the wired remote controls, for those who are old enough to remember.

Satellite TV for PC Software

July 29, 2008

by Jeff Franklin

It’s totally possible now to get high quality TV right on your PC via the magic of the Internew. Provided you have high speed Internet - via WiFi or network cable, and the software I’d like to discuss, you can get great reception from over 4,000 channels from hundreds of countries. That’s an incredible amount of video information. And yet, it’s totally free!

The software I want to talk about is an aggregator software developed over the past few years specifically to bring the channels together at your fingertips so you can watch TV right on your PC. There are so many choices that you may find yourself getting addicted to watching TV this way, as I did. Because of the way the channels are linked there is no monthly fee. And you’d be interested to know that it is totally legal.

Satellite TV for PC software is totally legal because the channels allocated for this are already cleared for Internet broadcast. There is no illegal use of signals, no hacking. This software is free of viruses and spyware and I found something else of interest - it comes in many different options. Basically, the more money you pay, the better the software - more channels you get. The low end gets around 2,000 channels. And I should know.

My background is 15 years in radio and TV right in the big Dallas/Fort Worth market. With my own talk show I was sent so many gizmos in those years but none compare to this piece that I’ve used so many times for sports - soccer games from Brazil to matches of UK teams I would have missed locally. It’s a great value, really.

I know this whole thing sounds like a commercial for this crazy software, and I don’t want it to be. I just want you to know how pleased I am with the cable TV for computer software. And I urge you to check it out as well. For the price, it’s an incredible value. I’ll tell you - this is a time saver, if your time is worth anything. The software quickly finds streaming video. But maybe you’re thinking it’s too complicated.

Well, you know, I am no expert when it comes to the computer. In fact, I always call my buddy, Dennis, to install things and to make sure my PC is running at its best. But when I looked at the point and click instructions for this software, I was pretty confident I could do this one myself. And guess what? The cable TV on computer software was so easy - I am sure anyone could install this. And another thing.

Satellite TV for PC software is on my desktop, ready to use. And provided I have a high speed connection, which I do, and a wireless card on my notebook, I can get all these channels - free. No hardware on either PC or notebook - it’s a simple software install. I think that’s pretty convenient. But like anything - all good things will come to an end. Already on the 4,000 channel website I see they will increase their price soon.

And finally, because of the low cost of this software - I mean, think about it, I just spent nearly $200 for a low end DVD player - this is much less and am certain I got a bargain because you know how they raise the price on these things. But when they do, it will still be a good bargain and I’ll be streaming TV right on my screen. And that’s pretty good in my book.

Choosing a GPS tracking device to suit your needs

July 29, 2008

by Charles Simmon

GPS stands for Global Positioning System, which is a navigational system that uses a global satellite system to identify the exact location, route and speed of a GPS receiver. This system is designed to calculate the distance between the satellite or a few satellites and the specific receiver in order to tabulate the aforementioned measurements with great accuracy. GPS tracking units come in various forms with a variety of uses so how to choose GPS tracking devices for your specific needs?

GPS units were initially designed for military use however over time, people (outside of the armed forces) have found practical uses for GPS with the most popular being its ability to replace the need for maps. Easily incorporated into devices like mobile phones, personal digital assistants, automobiles, watches and even pets, the GPS tracking system is an extremely useful piece of equipment to have.

One of the most popular uses of a GPS tracking unit is in a vehicle. With a GPS system in place, you will find it difficult to get lost. Driving alone in unfamiliar territory can be daunting. If your car breaks-down and you find yourself stranded in the middle of nowhere, this could be a potentially dangerous if not daunting situation. A GPS tracking device reduces your chances of getting lost because it not only helps you find your exact destination but will also tell you how far you have to travel and check that you are traveling in the right direction.

With a GPS unit on-hand, the probability of anyone getting lost is extremely low because this technology provides the security of always being able to find out exactly where you are at any one point in time. Vehicle owners relish this security that a GPS device provides.

GPS devices are so versatile that they can be fitted onto almost anything - from cars, trucks, boats, ships, mobile phones, PDAs, watches and even pets!

A GPS system could also be incorporated into a watch worn by your children and this could help you keep track of their whereabouts when you?re not with them. Endangered animals could also be tracked and kept in surveillance with a Global Positioning System.

Choosing a GPS tracking device to suit your specific needs is an important step in a business if you’re looking to safeguard your goods and products. By being able to track your shipments with great accuracy, you not only deter likely thefts but if goods are stolen, they can be traced and the perpetrator waylaid within minutes. This gives you and your customers the security to know where your products are and when they’ll arrive at their destinations.

Ensuring the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of your goods will not only improve your business as you’d be able to service more customers but will also help you lower any costs of losing trucks and goods through theft. In cases where your shipment transportation runs into trouble, the GPS tracking system will be able to locate that truck or ship within seconds and help can be dispatched immediately.

How to use a GPS tracking device to your greatest advantage? Choose a unit with specific functions to suit your personal needs. If you’re a business owner, it will be helpful to know that some insurance agencies even offer discounts if you own and use GPS tracking units.

Incredible Blu Ray Disc Features

July 29, 2008

by Ivan j Finch

As Bob Dylan would say, “Times, they are a changin.” It was hard to imagine that home movie viewing could get any better once the DVD replaced VHS tapes, but now Sony’s Blu Ray disc player has revolutionized how we experience audio, visual and interactive features encoded onto our new DVD movies.

Perhaps you’ve just purchased your first Blu Ray player and want some quintessential Blu Ray DVDs to jumpstart your collection and showcase all that BR has to offer. “Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Peal” is a great high-definition BR disc to start off your collection.

The Blu-Ray features include games and activities, a movie showcase, a backstage special, a “making of” feature and outtakes reel. Sea movies in general should only be viewed in top-quality color and 7.0 surround sound. (Given that tidbit, you may want to add “Master and Commander” to your list too). You’ll love the high def detail and impressive audio in the sci-fi classic “The Fifth Element.” For action-packed brag-worthy Blu Ray disc titles, check out the “Spiderman” trilogy, “X-Men” and “Troy” to show off your new machine to guests.

The future holds some exciting possibilities for the Blu Ray disc, analysts speculate. The storage space will enable users to bookmark internet pages, unlock bonus content on the publisher’s website, look up movie theater times, contribute to interactive movie blogs, and download audio or video extras.

New play modes are likely to be facilitated, such as: animated subtitles that fade in and out, or can be scrolled, trick play modes, angle alternates and video-in-video mode, like browsing cable TV menus. Browse buttons and graphics are said to be advanced and functionality more similar to a computer or DISH Network menu than a traditional DVD menu.

Is this the death throe for the age of the stand-alone movie player? Some speculate that laptops or USB devices and downloading will be the way of the future. The Kanguru Flash Drive Max has created a toothbrush-sized USB device that holds 64 GB of storage, so perhaps further advances will allow a plug-and-play format and faster, more legit software, that can take you from your laptop to your television set in mere minutes. Another idea is that improvements will be made with the cable networks’ “Movies On Demand” feature that has yet to impress.

One idea is that improvements will be made with the cable networks’ “Movies On Demand” feature that has yet to impress. Right now, the prices are basically the same as a video rental, and corporate executives have overlooked the fact that many people actually enjoy going to the movie store to browse the latest releases. Not to mention that the selection of movies is nowhere near as great as Net Flix or Blockbuster Online, nor are the movies as portable. Whatever the future holds, the industry has made up its mind: the Blu Ray disc is in, so either buy it and continue stockpiling your movie collection, or be left behind!
