Microdermabrasion, Skin Care at it’s Best

July 13, 2008

Many people have now heard of the skin care treatment called microdermabrasion as it is one of the most popular skin care treatments in both Europe and America at the moment. Microdermabrasion employs the use of a special machine which creates a strong circular flow of air down a tube out through a wand and onto the face and then back up into the machine. Fine medical grade aluminum oxide crystals are mixed into the air to remove the top layer of dead skin cells which are collected, along with the crystals, back into the machine.

If performed by a suitably qualified person Microdermabrasion, a professional non-invasive cosmetic procedure, carries few, if any, risks. Skin is an extremely complicated organ of the body and to gain the most benefits from the procedure it is vitally important that the operative has a greater understanding of it. Because of this fact the best results are, inevitably, gained in the salon, spa or clinic but it can now be performed by almost anybody in the comfort of their own home using equipment that costs around $200.

One of the most immediate benefits that you will notice is the increased tightness of the skin and the fresh look and feel of it. Immediately following a session the skin can sometimes appear slightly red but this quickly settles to a healthy glow. Your skin will also have a nice sheen and far fewer open pores giving an incredibly youthful appearance which can improve of a course of treatments.

For many the most important benefit from microdermabrasion is the removal of comedones. These are the plugs in pores which are visible in blackheads and unseen in whiteheads. As these are part of the cause of acne by using microdermabrasion to condition the skin (which is free from active acne) so the new acne does not form, it is possible to bring outbreaks quickly under control and minimize the risk of new outbreaks.

Acne can be devastating and the effects can only be fully understood by those who have suffered from the disease. Not only is it considered unsightly but it is also really painful and certainly uncomfortable at the best of times. It is little wonder that so many suffers also suffer from depression and for this reason the benefits, and importance, of microdermabrasion can not be understated for such people.

There are plenty of acne treatments available but the regime has to be specific to the person as not all work for all people and it is very much a case of trial and error. Fortunately microdermabrasion appears to work to great effect on virtually anybody who suffers from acne and, because of this, it is extremely popular as both a cure and a preventative treatment.

The benefits of microdermabrasion are plentiful. Although I have focused on acne other benefits include the visible reduction in fine lines and wrinkles. Furthermore it is extremely effective at reducing the visibility (or removing completely) of acne scars and other blemishes.

It is most probably because of the profound and varied benefits of microdermabrasion that it continues to be one of the most popular skin treatments available. Furthermore, nearly everyone can benefit from regular treatments and as more places offer it as a service competition increases which drives down the price. In some areas, where competition is high, virtually anybody can afford to incorporate the treatment into their skin care regime. Have you checked the prices in your area recently?
